FrozenLinux GNOME

FrozenLinux GNOME is an open source Debian-based operating system, a custom editon of the FrozenLinux distribution that uses GNOME as its main desktop environment.

Available as a 64-bit Live DVD

The GNOME edition of FrozenLinux is available for download as a 64-bit Live DVD ISO image, designed from the ground up to run only on amd64 (x86_64) computers, supporting both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. It can be installed on a local disk drive or used as-is directly from the live media (DVD or USB).

Boot options

The boot screen is identical with the one used on the MATE and LXDE editions of FrozenLinux, allowing the user to start the live environment with default boot options and drivers or in safe graphics mode using the failsafe option. It is also possible to boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive.

Pure GNOME Classic environment for an old-school desktop experience

Being a lightweight distribution based on Debian, FrozenLinux uses the GNOME Classic graphical desktop environment for this edition, providing users with an old-school desktop experience that uses a two-panel layout, similar with the one used on the MATE edition.

Default applications

Default applications include the GIMP image editor, Evolution email and calendar client, LibreOffice office suite, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Iceweasel web browser, Empathy multi-protocol instant messenger, XChat IRC client, Transmission torrent downloader and Totem video player.

In addition, the Brasero CD/DVD burning software, BleachBit system cleaner, OpenShot video editor, UNetbootin bootable USB creator, Gwibber social networking client and Rhythmbox music player and organizer are also included.

Bottom line

In conclusion, the GNOME edition of FrozenLinux is a decent operating system that will run well on any computer that supports the 64-bit (amd64) architecture. Be aware though, that this version is no longer maintained by the FrozenLinux developers.
