FrozenLinux MATE

FrozenLinux MATE is an open source operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux and built around the lightweight and traditional MATE desktop environment, a clone of the GNOME 2 (GNOME Classic) window manager. This is also the default and main edition of the FrozenLinux project.

Available for download as Live DVDs for mainstream architectures

The MATE edition of FrozenLinux is available for download as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms, 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64).

Minimal boot options

When booting the ISO images from the BIOS of a PC, users will be prompted by a boot screen that allows them to run the live environment with default boot options or in safe graphics mode (failsafe), as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive.

Easy-to-use graphical desktop environment powered by MATE

The MATE session provided on this Linux operating system uses a dark theme and a two-panel layout à la GNOME Classic. It is easy to use and quite productive, as you can quickly launch applications from the top panel and effortlessly interact with running programs and cycle between virtual workspaces from the bottom panel.

Default applications

Default applications include the LibreOffice office suite, GIMP image editor, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Empathy multi-protocol instant messenger, Iceweasel web browser, XChat IRC client, Evolution email and calendar client, as well as Transmission torrent downloader.

In addition, the Gwibber social networking client, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, OpenShot video editor, Rhythmbox music player and organizer, Totem video player, BleachBit system cleaner and UNetbootin bootable USB creator are also installed.
