Micro-R OS Studios Musique (also known as Micro-R OS Studios Music) is an open source and freely distributed desktop-oriented operating system designed for French-speaking users and musicians who are looking for a free, modern and easy-to-use Linux distribution to process audio files, record music, as well as for digital content creation. The distribution is based off of Ubuntu.
Distributed as a 64-bit Live DVD
The Studios Music edition of Micro-R OS is available for download as a Live DVD ISO image that contains software packages optimized only for the 64-bit (x86_64) instruction set architectures. This means that you can only boot the operating system on computers supporting the 64-bit hardware platform.
Standard boot options
The Live DVD boot menu is similar with the one of other Micro-R OS editions, designed from the ground up to allow the user to easily start the live system with normal configuration or in safe graphics mode, start the installer directly, as well as to perform a memory diagnostic test or boot an existing OS from the local drive.
Cinnamon is in charge of the graphical session
The beautiful, customizable and modern Cinnamon desktop environment is once again in charge of the default graphical session, but the GNOME Fallback (GNOME Classic) session is also included and can be easily selected from the login screen, where you should use the “micro-r” password to login. The desktop looks astonishing, designed for the 21st century and comprised of a semi-transparent panel (taskbar) located on the bottom edge of the screen.
Comes pre-loaded with numerous audio related programs
As expected, the main feature of the Micro-R OS Studios Musique operating system is the great collection of open-source applications, which are mostly oriented towards music production, audio recording, audio processing and other general audio manipulation tasks. Keep in mind though, that the default language is French!
