Muslims OS Ultimate is a Linux kernel-based operating system released under an open-source license and designed from the ground up to be used by members of the Muslim Linux community. It is derived from the Ubuntu operating system and built around the LXDE desktop environment.
It only supports 32-bit applications
The distribution is available for download as a single Live DVD ISO image that has been tagged with the i386 architecture, supporting only 32-bit applications, and split into four archives.
In order to use the distribution, you must download all the archives, extract them somewhere using the “cat muslims-0.1-i386.iso.* > muslims-0.1-i386.iso” command and write the ISO image to a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive of 4GB or higher capacity.
The OS starts in live mode from the ISO image
When booting the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, using either a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive, the user will encounter a boot prompt from where he or she can start the live system with default drivers or in safe graphics mode, perform a memory test, start the installer directly or boot from the local drive.
Lightweight graphical desktop environment powered by LXDE
The distro is built around the lightweight LXDE desktop environment, which uses a dark theme and comprises of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, allowing users to easily launch applications, interact with running programs and navigate between virtual workspaces.
Default applications
Default applications include the Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Inkscape vector graphics editor, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, GIMP image editor, LibreOffice and Kingsoft office suites, Audacious audio player, VLC Media Player, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Pidgin IM client, Transmission torrent downloader, Sylpheed email client Xtreme download manager and 4K download manager.
It contains a wide range of Islamic software
There are a plethora of open-source Islamic software pre-installed in this operating system. Among some of the most important ones, we can mention Qur’anic Study Tools, Al-Faridh, Arab Eyes Qamoos, Minbar Prayer Times, Mishkal, Hijra Appet, Thawab, Thwab, Rejaal and Fsool.
