BLAG Linux GNOME is a freely distributed and open source operating system built around the modern GNOME desktop environment and using the latest stable base of the Fedora Linux distribution. It is suitable for mid-range and high-end computers.
Available as 32-bit and 64-bit Live CDs
This special edition of BLAG Linux is available for download as 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) Live CD ISO images that must be burned onto CD discs or written on USB thumb drives in order for the user to boot them from the BIOS of a PC.From the boot loader of the Live CDs, the user will be able to start the live environment with default options or in safe graphics mode, perform a memory diagnostic test, check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a CD media), as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first drive.
Modern, untouched GNOME desktop environment with lightweight apps
It appears to us that the GNOME desktop environment used in BLAG Linux has not been modified at all, as it looks and feel exactly the same with the one of the Fedora Linux operating system.Default applications include the Quod Libet audio player, AbiWord word processor, Cheese webcam viewer, gFTP file transfer client, GnomeBaker CD/DVD burning software, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Sylpheed email client, Sound Converter audio file converter, and Midori web browser.
In addition, the Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Ex Falso audio tag editor, Gedit text editor, HexChat IRC client, MyPaint digital painting software, OggConvert audio converter, Whaaw! media player and Unit Converter utility are also included.
Bottom line
Summing up, the GNOME edition of BLAG Linux proves to be very stable and reliable, just like the Fedora OS. It provides users with a minimal selection of apps that are also found in the MATE edition of this lightweight operating system. What is new in this release:
- The repo works without having to download the second version of the blag-release package.
- Replaced FVWM with Openbox.
- I've added: SoundRecorder to ensure that a recording package was available on the CD. Audacity was to large labyrinth to provide a different tool for representing information. xpad to provide quick notes
- The LXDE, MINI and XFCE CD's are available to allow you to start on the DE/WM of choice and provide smaller downloads for those who need it.
