BLAG Linux LXDE

BLAG Linux LXDE is a free and open source distribution of Linux based on the well known and widely used Fedora Linux operating system, which in turn is derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. As its name suggests, BLAG Linux LXDE is built around the lightweight LXDE desktop environment.

Distributed as 32-bit/64-bit Live CDs

The LXDE edition of BLAG Linux is distributed as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms, 32-bit and 64-bit. Both ISOs will fit perfectly on CD discs or on USB thumb drives of 1GB or higher capacity.

Boot menu à la Fedora Linux

The Live CD boot menu of BLAG Linux LXDE is identical in look and feel with the one of the Fedora Linux distribution, engineered to allow the user to immediately start the live system with a single press of a button.

Additional boot options include the ability to start the distribution in basic graphics mode, test the live media (only if using a CD disc) and start the live environment, as well as to run a memory test.

LXDE is in charge of the graphical session

As mentioned, LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) is in charge of the graphical session in this special edition of the BLAG Linux operating system. It has been designed to be used on low-end computers and provides users with a traditional, easy to use and familiar desktop interface that comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen. At the login screen, simply press the "Log In" button without entering a password!

Default applications

Default applications include AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Sylpheed email client, Transmission torrent downloader, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Midori web browser, GnomeBaker CD/DVD burning software, gFTP file transfer protocol, HexChat IRC client, PCManFM file manager, Gigolo Samba network browser, Quod Liber music player, Whaaw! media player, Leafpad text editor, Grip Audio-CD ripper, and Xpad note-taking tool.

What is new in this release:

• The repo works without having to download the second version of the blag-release package.
• Replaced FVWM with Openbox.
• I've added: SoundRecorder to ensure that a recording package was available on the CD. Audacity was to large labyrinth to provide a different tool for representing information. xpad to provide quick notes
• The LXDE, MINI and XFCE CD's are available to allow you to start on the DE/WM of choice and provide smaller downloads for those who need it.
