Pak Linux Xfce is a special edition of the Ubuntu-based Pak Linux operating system that replaces the MATE desktop environment used in the main edition with Xfce for even a more lightweight alternative that will run faster on computers with low RAM.
Distributed as a dual-arch Live CD
This is the only Pak Linux edition that is distributed as a Live CD ISO images, as the main and GNOME editions are available for download as Live DVDs. This is a hybrid and dual-arch ISO image that supports 64-bit and 32-bit hardware platforms and it’s deployable on either a CD disc or a USB flash drive.
Boot options
The boot menu of the Pak Linux Xfce edition is identical with the one used on the main and GNOME flavors of this Ubuntu-based operating system. It will allow the user to start the live environment with default boot options and without installing anything, test the computer’s memory for errors, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local drive.
Low on resources and traditional desktop environment powered by Xfce
While the desktop environment included in this custom Pak Linux edition look and acts like the one found on the main edition of the operating system, it is actually based on Xfce. It uses a two-panel layout, the 'paklinux' username (without a password) and includes full support for the Urdu language.
Default applications
Default applications include the Empathy multi-protocol instant messenger, uGet downloaded manager, Mozilla Firefox web browser, gFTP file transfer client, Parole media player, Audacious audio player, PiTiVi video editor and Brasero CD/DVD burning utility.
Bottom line
All in all, the Xfce edition of Pak Linux has been designed in such a way to look and act exactly like the main edition of this Ubuntu-based distribution, in order to not confuse the user with different desktop layouts. We strongly believe that this edition is much faster and lightweight than the main Pak Linux flavor. Also, you should check out the GNOME edition of Pak Linux!
