VectorLinux Light Live

VectorLinux Light Live is an open source, live and bootable operating system, a special edition of the VectorLinux Light distribution designed to be used directly from a CD or USB media. It uses IceWM as the default and only graphical desktop environment.

The Live CD contains software packages optimized for 32-bit and 64-bit architectures

The Live version of VectorLinux Light can be downloaded via Softoware as a dual-arch Live CD ISO image that contains software packages optimized for 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. The ISO image is hybrid and can be written on a USB thumb drive or a CD disc.

The boot menu includes advanced options

Besides the ability to start the live system with default drivers, there are several advanced options on the boot menu that allows you to probe for video, autoprobe for video, alternative autoprobe for video, drop to a shell prompt, boot an existing OS from the local drive, mount hard drive partitions, as well as to perform a memory diagnostic test.

It uses the minimalist IceWM window manager

The very fast, low on resources and extremely lightweight IceWM window manager is in charge of the graphical desktop environment inside VectorLinux Light Live. It comprised of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where the user can navigate the main menu, launch applications, as well as to interact with running programs.

Contains a wide-range of lightweight applications

Being designed from the ground up to be as low on resources as possible, VectorLinux Light Live contains a wide-range of lightweight applications, among which we can mention the Gslapt package manger, GParted parition editor, Leafpad text editor, Xarchive archive manager, ROXTerm terminal emulator, Opera web browser, XChat IRC client, Wicd network connection manager, Geeqie image viewer, Grip Audio-CD ripper and VLC Media Player.
