Manjaro Unity Community Edition

Manjaro Unity Community Edition is an open source and freely distributed desktop-oriented operating system built around the controversial Unity desktop environment of the Ubuntu Linux distribution and derived from the lightweight and flexible Arch Linux distro.

Distributed as 64-bit and 32-bit Live DVDs

The Unity edition of Manjaro Linux is distributed as Live DVD ISO images, which are bootable on computers supporting either of the 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (amd64) instruction set architectures. The ISOs have approximately 2 GB in size and can be deployed to DVD discs or USB flash drives of 2GB or higher capacity.

Offers standard Manjaro boot options

When booting the operating system from either of the aforementioned bootable mediums, users will have to interact with the Live DVD boot menu, which allows them to start the live system with or without free drivers, perform a system memory diagnostic test, boot an existing OS from the local drive, as well as to view detailed information about your computer’s hardware components.

Uses Ubuntu’s Unity interface

The default and only graphical desktop environment of Manjaro Unity Community Edition is Unity, the same user interface that is used on the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu Linux.

Please note that the Unity desktop environment has been built from the Unity-for-Arch repositories, containing the same theme and apps as the Manjaro Cinnamon Community Edition. Both are derived from the Manjaro Net distribution.

Default applications

Default applications include the LibreOffice office suite, Mozilla Firefox web browser, VLC Media Player, HexChat IRC client, Viewnior image viewer, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, and SciTE text editor.

Among other apps, we can mention the Chromium web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, 7-zip file manager, Gedit text editor, Guayadeque and Audacious music players, ClamTk anti-virus software, Cheese webcam viewer, and Evolution email and calendar client.
