simpleLinux GNU/Linux is an open source distribution of Linux derived from Slax, which in turn is based off of Slackware Linux. It uses KDE as the default and only graphical desktop environment.
It’s distributed as a 32-bit Live CD
First of all, we should mention that the simpleLinux GNU/Linux operating system is currently distributed in two editions, for desktop and server use. This is the Desktop edition and is distribution as a 32-bit Live CD, which means that it only contains software packages optimized for the x86 architecture, but will run well on computers that support both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms.
The live system can be copied to RAM
Default boot options include the ability to start the live system with the default kernel, by coping the contents of the ISO image to RAM (system memory), in safe graphics mode using the VESA mode, in text mode or with no change. Additionally, you can start the OS as a PXE server or perform a memory test.
The desktop environment is beautiful and modern, uses a dock
Despite the fact that the desktop session is powered by the old-school KDE 3.5 graphical environment, it uses a beautiful and modern layout comprised of a dock (applications launcher) located on the bottom edge of the screen.
Contains powerful, open-source applications
The Desktop edition of simpleLinux GNU/Linux contains powerful, open-source applications, among which we can mention the Google Earth 3D planet viewer, Skype VoIP client, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Transmission torrent downloader, Bluefish HTML editor, GIMP image editor, Inkscape vector graphics editor, Leafpad text editor, as well as a wide range of KDE-specific applications.
It is no longer under active development
The last version of simpleLinux GNU/Linux was released on October 1st, 2012, dubbed Optimist Oncilla. Unfortunately, it is no longer under active development and has been archived for historical purposes only.
