TurnKey Pligg Live CD is an open source appliance that provides users with a Debian-based operating system built around the Pligg web-based software. It can be used by anyone who wants an easy-to-use method for deploying dedicated Pligg servers.

Pligg is an open source CMS (Content Management System) and provides a social publishing platform for easily creating great websites. The appliance comes with all the upstream Pligg configurations, which are installed by default in /var/www/pligg.

Key features include out-of-the-box support for secure connections using the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) specification, the phpMyAdmin software for administering MySQL databases, a Postfix MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) for sending emails to users, as well as Webmin modules for configuring PHP, MySQL, Apache and Postfix.

While the default username for SSH, MySQL, Postfix and Webmin is root, the default Pligg username is admin. Setting up passwords for the system administrator account, the MySQL 'root' account, as well as the Pligg 'admin' account is easy from the first boot configuration wizard.

In addition, users must add a valid email address for the Pligg 'admin' account, and, optionally, initialize the standard TurnKey Hub services (Backup and Migration or Domain Management and Dynamic DNS), also during the first boot setup process.

For users' convenience, the appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, which can be burned to CD discs or written to USB flash drives and used for trying or installing the operating system on a computer. Additionally, virtual images for Xen, OpenStack, OpenNode, OVF and OpenVZ virtualization technologies are available for download on the project's homepage.

The server can be rebooted or shutdown from the TurnKey Linux Configuration Console, as well as via the SSH or Web Shell services. Don't forget to write down the IP addresses and ports of the active services at the end of the installation process.

What is new in this release:

  • PHPMyAdmin:
  • Configured to allow users preferences stored in database.
  • Specified blowfish_secret and regeneration on firstboot (security).
