KANOTIX Live LXDE

KANOTIX Live LXDE is an open source and free distribution of Linux build around the lightweight, fast and modern LXDE desktop environment, using the latest stable and reliable based of the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system.

Availability, boot options, supported platforms/languages

The LXDE edition of the KANOTIX Linux distribution is available for download as two Live CD/DVD ISO images, one for the 32-bit (i586) architecture and another one for the 64-bit (amd64) hardware platforms. Both German and English languages are supported by the bootable medium.

It features the same boot prompt as the KDE edition, allowing users to start the live environment with default options, using the automatic graphics card detection functionality, or in failsafe mode, as well as to run a system memory (RAM) diagnostic test using the powerful Memtest86+ utility.

Lightweight and traditional desktop environment with top-notch apps

As mentioned, this KANOTIX flavor uses LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment), which provides users with a traditional and clean graphical session that comprises a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can access the main menu, launch applications, interact with running programs, and cycle between virtual workspaces.

Default applications include the Leafpad text editor, XTerm and LXTerminal terminal emulator, Xarchiver archive manager, GIMP image editor, Simple Scan and XSane image scanners, QtQR QR code generator, HexChat IRC client, Iceweasel web browser, Icedove email and news client, as well as Pidgin instant messenger.

In addition, it features the Skype VoIP client, Geany IDE, Exaile music player, GNOME MPlayer video player, VLC Media Player, LibreOffice office suite, Xfburn CD/DVD burning software, guvcview webcam viewer, Midnight Commander twin-panel file manager, and Htop system monitoring tool.
