KANOTIX Live KDE

KANOTIX Live KDE is an open source and free operating system based on the highly acclaimed Debian GNU/Linux distribution and built around the KDE Plasma Workspaces and Applications desktop environment.

Availability, supported languages/platforms and boot options

Users can download this Live operating system as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit), which can be written to DVD discs or deployed onto USB flash drives of 2GB or higher capacity. It supports both English and German languages.

The unique boot prompt is powered by the latest stable GRUB boot loader and allows users to start the live environment with default options, in failsafe mode or using the automatic graphics card detection functionality, as well as to run a memory (RAM) diagnostic test.

Powerful and modern KDE desktop environment with a huge collection of apps

As mentioned, this KANOTIX edition features the KDE Plasma Workspace and Applications desktop environment, which is comprised of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen from where users can the access the main menu, launch apps, cycle between virtual workspaces, as well as to interact with running programs and the functions implemented in the system tray area.

Default applications include the GIMP image editor, Gwenview image viewer, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Konversation IRC client, Skype VoIP client, Iceweasel and Konqueror web browser, LibreOffice office suite, Okular document viewer, Amarok audio player, GNOME MPlayer and Jaffeine video players, as well as VLC Media Player.

In addition, it features the Midnigh Commander twin-panel file manager, Kate and KWrite text editors, Klipper clipboard manager, Ark archive manager, K3b CD/DVD/BD burning software, Dolphin file manager, GParted partition editor, Apper software manager, Konsole and XTerm terminal emulators.
