Kanotix CeBIT

Kanotix CeBIT is a special edition of the Kanotix Linux operating system that contains the newest packages and recognizes more modern hardware than any other operating system in use today. It is based on the award-winning Debian GNU/Linux distro.

Distributed as Live DVD ISO images for mainstream architectures

The CeBIT edition of Kanotix is available for download as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms, 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64). It supports English and German languages.

Boot options

From the boot prompt, the user can choose to start the live environment with support for English or German languages, using three different boot options: normal, automatic detection of graphics cards or failsafe. In addition, you can perform a system memory diagnostic test using the Memtest86+ utility.

Modern and productive desktop environment powered by KDE Plasma

The default desktop environment of Kanotix is and has always been KDE Plasma, which provides users with a modern and productive graphical interface that comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, designed to allow the user to launch applications, cycle between virtual workspaces and interact with running programs.

Default applications

Among the applications included in Kanotix CeBIT, we can mention VLC Media Player, Amarok audio player, Kaffeine and GNOME MPlayer video players, GIMP image editor, Skype VoIP client, Steam for Linux client, Pidgin instant messenger, Icedove email and news client and Iceweasel web browser.

In addition, the Konversation IRC client, Konqueror web browser, XSane image scanning program, LibreOffice office suite and K3b CD/DVD/BD burning software are also included.

Bottom line

Summing up, the CeBIT edition of Kanotix proves to be a rock-solid and full featured desktop-oriented operating system suitable for modern computers, as the only OS. However, you should also try the standard edition of this Debian GNU/Linux-based distribution.
