Saluki is a free Puppy Linux derivative that has been designed from the ground up to be used as a base system for operating system developers who want to create puplets, Puppy Linux-based distributions.

It’s distributed as a minimal, dual-arch Live CD

You can download Saluki from Softoware as a minimal, dual-arch Live CD ISO image of approximately 130MB in size. It supports both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) computer platforms and must be deployed to a CD disc or USB thumb drive in order to boot it from the BIOS of a PC.

Features a minimal boot prompt that starts the live system automatically

Being based on Puppy Linux, Saluki features a minimal boot prompt that starts the live system automatically in five seconds from the moment the users boots the ISO image from the BIOS of a computer.

However, advanced users who want to add extra kernel parameters to the boot prompt can press the F2 or F3 keys for detailed information.

Xfce is in charge of the graphical desktop environment

Believe it or not, Xfce is in charge of the graphical desktop environment inside Saluki. It provides users with a traditional, familiar and extremely easy-to-use interface that comprises of a single panel located on the bottom edge of the screen.

The distribution contains a great set of open-source applications, despite the fact that the ISO image has only 130MB in size. Among these, we can mention Dia diagram creator, mtPaing image editor, Claws Mail email client, gFTP file transfer client, Midor web browser, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Transmission torrent downloader, Xnoise media player and AbiWord word processor.
