fgallery is a modern and minimalist open source photo gallery web-based software that provides one of the most simple to install and use image gallery script on the Internet. It can display photos in horizontal or vertical layouts, supports face detection, loads extremely fast, displays panoramas in full-size by default, and provides the RAW file when download a photo.

Features at a glance

Among its features, we can mention that fgallery will automatically orient photos without quality loss and fuss, automatically sorts photos by time, and automatically adapts to the current proportions and size of your screen.

It doesn’t require server-side processing or additional requirements, and supports any modern web browser. It is distributed as a single zip archive, which contains the actual script, written in the Perl programming language, installation instructions in HTML and RDF formats, and a folder with the rest of the files (JS scripts, CSS, HTML and images).

Getting started with fgallery

Before anything else, users should make sure that the following requirements are installed on their web server: ImageMagick, fbida or libjpeg-progs, zip, Perl and the JSON::XS (libjson-xs-perl) module.

To use the application, you will first need to generate all the static files using the fgallery script. Therefore, you should extract the zip archive, open a terminal, navigate to the extracted folder and execute the ./fgallery photo-dir my-gallery command (where “photo-dir” is the path to directory where all the photos that you want to display are).

Next, you will need to upload the generated "my-gallery" folder somewhere on your web server. Due to AJAX/browser restrictions, you can’t test the gallery on your computer, as you really need to upload everything to a web server.
