Core17 is a small, fast and low on resources distribution of Linux based off of Tiny Core Linux and built around the lightweight, yet modern Enlightenment graphical desktop environment/window manager.

The OS can be used directly from the bootable medium

You can download this Tiny Core Linux remix as a single, dual-arch and minimal Live CD ISO image of approximately 200MB in size, deployable on either of the 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platforms.

To boot it from the BIOS of a PC, you must first write the ISO image to a blank CD disc or a USB flash drive of 512MB or higher capacity.

Includes an old-school bootloader with useful options

The operating system includes an old-school bootloader with useful options, such as the ability to start the live system with default video drivers and support for wireless networks or modems, as well as in safe graphics mode with support for Wi-Fi or modems.

The graphical desktop environment features a pitch black theme

As mentioned, the distribution was built around the Enlightenment window manager as its default and only desktop environment. It comprises of a taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can launch, cycle between virtual workspaces and access the main menu, which can also be accessed by left clicking anywhere on the desktop.

It includes mostly Enlightenment-specific applications

Being so tiny, the operating system includes mostly Enlightenment-specific applications, such as the Ecrire text editor, Terminology terminal emulator, Ephoto image viewer and organizer, Emotion media center and EConnMan Internet connection manager. The MPlayer video player is also included.

Bottom line

All in all, Core17 is without no doubt a tiny distribution of Linux that has been prettified with the Enlightenment desktop environment. However, we believe that is should include more third-party applications in order to become more popular among owners of low-end computers.
