As its name might suggest, Blender-boot is a bootable Live Linux distribution built around Blender, an award-winning 3D modeller software used for creating astonishing graphics and animations. Blender is heavily used at Hollywood for creating spectacular effects for blockbuster movies.

You can used on 64-bit or 32-bit computers, directly from the bootable medium

The operating system can be downloaded via Softoware or directly from its official website as two Live DVD ISO images of approximately 1GB in size each, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit).

The user must download and write only one of these two ISO images, the one corresponding to the hardware architecture of your computer, on a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive of 1GB or higher capacity.

It is possible to use Blender in Live mode, without installing anything

The best feature of this operating system is the ability to offer a complete Blender session that runs in Live mode and requires no installation. However, you will be able to install it on a local drive if you want too.

Blender runs on top of a lightweight Xfce graphical session

By default, users will be dropped to a login screen when booting the Live CD, where they must use the “live” username without any password in order to access the graphical session, which is powered by Xfce.

Besides Blender, the operating system includes many other open-source applications. Among some of the most popular ones, we can mention the Chromium web browser, GIMP image editor, Inkscape vector graphics editor, Guake terminal emulator, Gedit text editor, VLC Media Player and Synaptic Package Manager.

It’s a little outdated!

Unfortunately, Blender-boot is a little outdated, as it uses an older version of Blender. However, you can still use it to get a taste of what this amazing open-source software can do without installing it, and without install a Linux distribution.
