TurnKey Trac Live CD is an open source and freely distributed project that allows anyone without prior knowledge of Linux and Web technologies to effortlessly deploy dedicated servers with the Trac software. It is an appliance based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system.
What is Trac?
Trac is a web-based and open source bug-tracking and project management application that can only be installed on an existing server machine. This TurnKey project provides an easy-to-use-and-configure method for creating a dedicated Trac server. It contains Apache, Postfix, Webmin, Webshell and SSH software packages.
Distributed as Live CDs and virtual appliances
it is distributed as Live CD ISO images that can be written to USB flash drives or burned onto CD discs, allowing users to install the operating system without much hassle. In addition, you can use the ISO images in demo mode, to just try the appliance without installing anything on your computer.
In addition to the Live CD ISOs, the project is also available for download as various virtual appliances in the OpenNode, Xen, OVF, OpenVZ and OpenStack formats. Keep in mind that both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures are supported at this time.
Features at a glance
Key features include Trac configurations, support for the SVN (Subversion), BZR (Bazaar), HG (Mercurial) and Git version control systems, example 'HelloWorld' repositories, syntax highlighting support, website wide admin user and authentication realm, as well as the ability to view the repositories in the web interface.
In addition, it offers out-of-the-box SSL support, a Postfix mail server for sending emails, and several Webmin modules for configuring the Apache and Postfix servers. Furthermore, a helper script, called trac-initproject, is also included for simplifying the creation of new projects.
Getting started with TurnKey Trac Live CD
While the default username for the Webmin, Webshell and SSH components is root, the default Trac username is admin. New passwords can be set during the first boot configuration process, from where you can also initialize TurnKey hub services and view the IP addresses and ports of the Trac appliance services.
