TurnKey Symfony Live CD is an open source Live Linux distribution based on the well known Debian GNU/Linux operating system and designed from the ground up to be used as an appliance for effortlessly deploy dedicated Symfony servers.
Following the model-view-controller (MVC) paradigm, Symfony is an open source and web-based PHP framework. The appliance comes with the open source Webmin, Webshell, MySQL and SSH software packages.
Key features include all of the upstream Symfony configurations, which are installed by default in /var/www/symfony, preconfigured front-end and project application, out-of-the-box app security (CSRF and XSS), as well as support for PHP XSLT, which is required for accessing the database.
In addition, it includes the phpMyAdmin administration front-end for the MySQL database server, support for SSL connections, a Postfix mail server for sending email messages, and various Webmin modules for configuring Apache, MySQL, PHP and Postfix.
Users are adviced to uncomment the "check for localhost (127.0.0.1)" option in /var/www/symfony/web/frontend_dev.php if they want to use frontend_dev.php. Also, the default username for the Webmin, MySQL, Webshell, MySQL and SSH components is root.
This TurnKey appliance is distributed as Live CD ISO images, which can be written on CD discs or USB flash drives, as well as ready-to-use virtual machines in the OpenVZ, OVF, OpenNode, OpenStack and Xen formats.
From the boot prompt, users can install the appliance on a local disk drive, as well as to try it without installing anything on their computers. The installation process requires users to partition the disk drive and install the bootloader.
After the installation process, a first boot configuration wizard will let users to set a password for the root (system administrator) account, as well as for the MySQL 'root' account. In addition, you can enable the TurnKey Backup, Dynamic DNS, Domain Management and Migration services.
Don't forget to write down the IP addresses and ports for accessing the Symfony web interface, the web shell, the Webmin and phpMyAdmin administration front-ends, as well as the SSH and SFTP accounts. Both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures are supported at this time.
