TurnKey Tomcat on Apache Live CD is an open source distribution of Linux based on the well known Debian GNU/Linux operating system and designed from the ground up to be used as an appliance for easily and quickly deploying the Apache Tomcat servlet container and web server.

Tomcat is an open source JSP and Java servlet application. The appliance includes the Webmin, MySQL and SSH software packages, support for secure connections via SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), as well as Webmin modules for configuring the MySQL and Apache servers.

Key features include Tomcat on Apache configurations with the OpenJDK Java runtime environment, Tomcat admin user, as well as admin and manager roles, JkMounts for applications, host-manager, manager and admin, Apache Jk load balancer connector for greater performance, and Tomcat AJP connector bind to localhost.

In addition, the appliance comes with web apps installed in /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps, TurnKey web control panel deployed in /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/cp, system wide Java and Tomcat environment variables, and JSP console that outputs messages to /var/log/syslog.

While the default username for the Tomcat administration applications is admin, the default username for the Webmin, MySQL, and SSH components is root. Immediately after the installation process, users will be able to set a new password for the root (system administrator) account, as well as for the MySQL 'root' account and the Tomcat 'admin' account.

During the first boot configuration process, you can also initialize the TurnKey Domain Management, Backup, Dynamic DNS and Migration services. At the end of the installation, you can view the available TurnKey Tomcat on Apache appliance services and their IP addresses/ports.

The project is distributed as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit and 32-bit). Several virtual machines in the OpenVZ, Xen, OpenStack, OpenNode and OVF formats are also available for download from the project's homepage.
