TurnKey Moodle Live CD is a free and open source software appliance built around the well known Moodle e-learning software and using the stable and reliable base of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system.
Moodle is an open source and popular e-learning software platform used by millions of users around the globe. The appliance includes all of the upstream Moodle configurations, which are installed by default in /var/www/moodle.
For security reasons, the Moodle installation has been configured to use SSL logins. In addition, it supports LDAP authentications, uses the attractive formal_white theme, as well as pre-defined email addresses for the admin, noreply and guest.
This TurnKey appliance supports SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connections, uses the phpMyAdmin administration front-end for MySQL database management, a Postfix MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) for sending emails to users, and Webmin modules for configuring Apache, PHP, Postfix and MySQL.
It is available for download as Live CD ISO images, which can be burned onto blank or RW CD discs using any CD/DVD burning software. As an alternative, they may be written to USB flash drives, bootable directly from the BIOS of most 64-bit (amd64) and 32-bit (i386) PCs.
In addition to the Live CDs, the appliance can be downloaded as ready-to-use virtual images for the Xen, OpenNode, OpenStack, OVF and OpenVZ virtualization technologies directly from the project's homepage.
While the default username for the Webmin, SSH, MySQL and Web Shell components is root, the default Moodle username is admin. During the first boot configuration process, which takes place after the installation, you will be able enter passwords for the MySQL 'root' account and the system administrator.
The appliance can be easily rebooted or shutdown from the TurnKey Linux Configuration Console, or remotely managed using the SSH, SFTP, Web Shell, Webmin or phpMyAdmin services.
