As its name suggests, BrowserLinux is a open source and completely free operating system designed from the ground up to be used only for surfing the Internet from the comfort of your desktop computer.

It’s based on Puppy Linux and built around Mozilla Firefox

The operating system is based on the minimalist Puppy Linux distribution and built around the widely used and powerful Mozilla Firefox web browser. It also includes a music player, a PDF document viewer, as well as Adobe Flash Player.

It is distributed as a minimal, dual-arch Live CD

The OS can be downloaded via Softoware or directly from the project’s official website (see link above) as a minimal, dual-arch Live CD ISO image of approximately 100MB in size, designed to run on 64-bit or 32-bit computers.

Boot menu à la Puppy Linux

Being based on Puppy Linux, the distribution comes with a boot menu that is identical in look and feel with the one of the official Puppy Linux ISO image. It will allow you to start the live system or add extra kernel parameters. Detailed information on possible boot options can be viewed by pressing the F2 key.

The graphical desktop environment is simple, very basic

BrowserLinux features a very basic and simple graphical desktop environment, designed to do one thing: to provide quick access to a web browser so you can immediately surf the Internet.

If you move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen, a Mozilla Firefox web browser will open so you can learn a few interesting things about how to use the operating system.

Contains a file manager, text editor and terminal emulator

Besides a web browser, the BrowserLinux distro also contains a baisc file manager powered by ROX-Filer, an advanced text editor powered by Geany, as well as a terminal emulator.
