TurnKey Bootstrap Live CD is an open source and freely distributed operating system that provides users with a bare minimum live system, called JeOS, specifically designed for people who are looking for a barebone Live GNU/Linux environment, with a Linux shell.
It is quite different from other TurnKey Linux appliances, as it's engineered to act as a technical exercise in order to demonstrate how low the Debian GNU/Linux operating system can go and still be useful, without breaking any rules.
It is packaged and distributed as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported architectures (64-bit and 32-bit), which can run on real hardware. The default username is root, with no password set.
From the boot prompt, the user can start the live system by using the first option. It is also possible to start an existing operating system that is installed on the first disk drive of your computer, as well as to add extra kernel parameters.
Once booted, the user will be able to set up networking, as well as to install as many packages as he or she wants from the default Debian GNU/Linux or TurnKey Linux software repositories, simply by using the apt-get command.
The TurnKey developers also provide users with binary tar archives for the Bootstrap version of their powerful and widely used Linux-based operating system. At the moment, users can download Bootstrap flavors based on Debian Squeeze and Wheezy Linux distributions.
However, the Live CD edition is the only viable method that can provide a live system for users who just want to try the operating system without installing anything on their computers. In addition, they can be easily deployed on USB flash drives using Disks (GNOME) or UNetbootin, or burned onto blank CD discs using any CD/DVD burning software.
