Parsidora is a completely free distribution of Linux derived from the widely used Fedora operating system, which in turn is based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux distro. It is designed for Persian-speaking users, includes multiple desktop environment and a vast amount of open source applications.

It’s distributed as installable only DVDs

The user can download Parsidora from Softoware or directly from its official website (see link above) as installable-only ISO images that support both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architecture. The ISOs have approximately 4GB in size each and must be deployed to either DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 8GB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of a computer.

Boot prompt à la Fedora Linux

When booting any of the aforementioned DVDs from the BIOS of a computer, you will encounter a boot menu that is identical with the one of the Fedora DVD. It allows you to mainly start the installation or check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a DVD media).

The Troubleshooting entry will allow you to install the operating system in safe graphics mode, rescue an existing Persidora system, perform a system memory (RAM) diagnostic test, as well as to boot from the local drive.

The entire installation process is simple and straightforward

Being based on Fedora, the OS uses its graphical installer. The entire installation process is simple and straightforward, requiring users to choose the language they would like to use during the installation process,  set the date and time, partition the disk, select a keyboard layout. During the installation, you will also be asked to enter a password for the root (system administrator) account, as well as to create at least one user.

GNOME is the default graphical desktop environment

By default, the distribution will assign GNOME in charge of the default graphical desktop environment, providing users with a modern and productive Linux session powered by the controversial GNOME Shell. You can choose a different desktop environment during the installation process.

Contains a standard set of open source applications

Being distributed as a DVD image, the operating system includes numerous software packages. As mentioned above, the default desktop environment will be GNOME, which means that it will include mostly GNOME-specific apps. If you want to have a different set of open source applications, you can choose them during the installation process.
