NouvaLinux is an open source distribution of Linux based off of Ubuntu, the world’s most popular free operating system, and built around the Nouva Linux Backup and Rescue software. It is the perfect OS for system rescue and backup operations.

It will only support 32-bit applications, downloadable as a Live CD

The distro has been designed from the ground up for i386 architectures, which means that while it will run on both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) computers, it only supports 32-bit applications.

It’s available for download as a hybrid Live CD ISO image of approximately 500MB in size. It fits perfectly on a CD disc, but you can also write it on a USB flash drive of 512MB or higher capacity.

You can start the live system or perform a memory diagnostic test from the boot menu

When booting the Live CD/USB from the BIOS of a PC, you will be able to run the live system with 32-bit support or perform a system memory diagnostic test from the boot menu. Keep in mind though, that the default language is French.

Offers an old-school graphical desktop environment built around GNOME

GNOME Classic is in charge of the default graphical desktop environment inside NouvaLinux. It provides users with an old-school interface comprised of a single panel located on the upper side of the screen, from where you can navigate the main menu, launch applications and interact with running programs.

A minimal set of open-source apps is included in NouvaLinux

As the distribution is built around the Nouva Linux Backup and Rescue software, it includes a minimal set of open-source apps. Among these, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser, tsclient Terminal Server Client, an X11 VNC (Virtual Network Computing) server, GNOME Disks disk manager, GParted partition editor, a bootable USB disk creator utility, Gedit text editor, GNOME Terminal terminal emulator, a desktop screenshot tool and Baobab disk usage analyzer.
