Micro-R OS Lite

As its name suggests, Micro-R OS Lite is a lightweight edition of the Micro-R OS Linux distribution, which is based on the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, which in turn is derived from the award-winning Debian GNU/Linux distribution. It is a desktop-oriented operating system designed for French-speaking users.

Distributed only as a 32-bit Live DVD

The Lite edition of Micro-R OS is distributed as a Live DVD ISO images that has approximately 1.4 GB in size and includes software packages optimized only for the 32-bit (x86) instruction set architecture. The user can write the ISO image on a blank DVD disc or a USB flash drive of 2GB or higher capacity (recommended).

Includes standard boot options

The boot menu of the Live DVD is identical in look and functionality with the one of the main Micro-R OS edition, allowing the user to try the operating system without installing it, start the live system in safe graphics mode, in case your video card is not recognized by the first boot option, start the installer directly, run a memory test, as well as to boot an existing OS from the local drive.

Cinnamon is in charge of the graphical session

Just like the main Micro-R OS edition, the Lite flavor uses the awesome Cinnamon desktop environment as its default graphical session. In addition, the GNOME Fallback (GNOME Classic) session is also available and can be selected from the login screen, where you must use the “micro-r” password (without quotes) to log into the graphical environment.

Comes pre-loaded with a smaller set of apps

The main difference between the Micro-R OS and Micro-R OS Lite editions is that the latter comes pre-loaded with a smaller set of open-source applications. We strongly recommend you to try both flavors and decide which one is best for you!
