Diet Swift Linux is a lightweight version of the Swift Linux operating system, simply entitled Diet. It is derived from the Linux Mint Debian Edition GNOME distribution and built around the minimal IceWM window manager.
It is distributed as a dual-arch Live CD ISO image
The Diet edition of Swift Linux is available for download as a dual-arch Live CD ISO image of approximately 700MB in size, deployable on either 32-bit (i386) or 64-bit (x86_64) computers.
Keep in mind though, that you must burn the ISO image onto a CD disc using any CD/DVD burning software or write it on a USB thumb drive of 1GB or higher capacity.
You can start the live system from the boot prompt
Users will be able to start the live system from the boot prompt, with default kernel parameters or in compatibility mode. In addition, they will be able to perform a system memory diagnostic test, check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a CD disc), as well as to boot an existing operating system that’s installed on the first disk drive.
Lightweight desktop environment powered by IceWM
Diet Swift Linux replaces the GNOME desktop environment of Linux Mint Debian Edition GNOME with the lightweight and old-school IceWM window manager. It comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, allowing the user to browse the main menu, launch applications and interact with running programs.
A standard set of open source applications is included
Being designed from the ground up to be as lightweight as possible, the operating system comes with a standard set of open source applications. Among these, we can mention mtPaint graphics editor, Iceweasel web browser, Sylpheed email client, Transmission torrent downloader, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, GNOME MPlayer video player and Geany IDE.
