akiraLINUX (Zorin OS) is a freely distributed and open source operating system derived from the well known Zorin OS Linux distribution. It uses Zorin's highly customized GNOME desktop environment suitable for mid-range machines.

Available only for German-speaking users and 64-bit platforms

The operating system is available for download as a single Live DVD ISO image of approximately 3GB in size, supporting only 64-bit hardware platforms and translated in the German language. It must be burned onto a DVD dis or written on a USB flash drive of 4GB or higher capacity in order to boot it from the BIOS of the PC.

From the minimal boot loader, the user will be able to start or install the distribution from the live mode, perform a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk drive.

Traditional desktop environment à la Zorin OS with numerous apps

This edition of akiraLINUX features a traditional desktop environment, very similar with the one used on the Zorin OS operating system, providing users with a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen from where they can launch applications and interact with opened programs.

Default applications include the LibreOffice office suite, Dia diagram creator, DeVeDe DVD-Video creator, Audacity audio editor, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox web browsers, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Deluge torrent downloader, FileZilla file transfer client, uGet download manager, Miro video and music player, VLC Media Player, and Blender 3D graphics renderer software.

Bottom line

In conclusion, we see no reason to download and install the akiraLINUX (Zorin OS) distribution on your personal computer, except if you are a German-speaking user and don't want to install Zorin OS. In addition, you should ckeck out akiraLINUX's Xubuntu and Lubuntu editions.
