Liquid Lemur Linux WMaker

Liquid Lemur Linux WMaker is a special edition of the Debian-based Liquid Lemur Linux operating system, built around the old-school Window Maker window manager, which is used as the default graphical desktop environment.

Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

The WMaker edition of Liquid Lemur Linux is available for download as a dual-arch and hybrid Live DVD ISO image that has approximately 1.5 GB in size and contains software packages optimized for both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures.

Boot options

Liquid Lemur Linux WMaker’s Live DVD boot menu is standard, providing users with the ability to start the live system with normal configuration or in compatibility mode, check the integrity of the bootable medium (only if you’re booting from a DVD disc), as well as to boot an existing operating system from the local drive.

Built around Window Maker

As mentioned, this special flavor of Liquid Lemur Linux is built around Window Maker, an old-school window manager that uses no panels or docks, but only some sort of widgets called docklets, which can act as launchers for certain apps or folders containing multiple items.

Right-clicking anywhere on the desktop will display the main menu, from where you can access the Liquid Lemur tools, favorite apps, the run dialog, essential system functions, as well as Window Maker settings.

Includes a great selection of apps

The operating system includes a great selection of applications, among which we can mention the Thunar file manager, Tomboy note-taking tool, Gedit text editor, Bulk Rename batch file renaming utility, F-Spot image viewer and organizer, GIMP image editor, gThumb and Mirage image viewer, Simple Scan scanning software, as well as the entire LibreOffice office suite.

In addition, the distribution includes the Banshee and Clementine music players, VLC Media Player, Xfburn and Brasero CD/DVD burning software, FileZilla file transfer client, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, XChat IRC client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, and Mozilla Firefox web browser.
