Apache ODE stands for Orchestration Director Engine.
As the name hints, ODE is nothing more than a core frame on which Java code can be run in a manner specific to the WS-BPEL language and philosophy.
The framework targets programmers that develop business applications and need a standard, safe, and organized environment where to interact with Web Services.
The framework supports expressing Web Services interfaces via WSDL, integration with any communication layer, a process management interfaces, and even legacy support for the older WS-BPEL 1.1 (BPEL4WS) standard.
