Developed and supported by the biggest companies on the Web, Dojo is one of the most complete and professional DHTML toolkits around.

Dojo (formerly known as The Dojo Toolkit) is made up from many different parts.

There's a module that handles all mobile development, one for desktop applications, a module called "Nano" which is a slimmed-down version of the framework, a section that deals with charts and graphics, one for tools, and a part that deals with third-party integrations.

Developers can use all of them, or just the ones relevant for their project.

Dojo can currently be used with client-side (browsers) and server-side (Node.js) environments.

Features:

  • AMD module loading
  • Small and fast
  • Lots of docs
  • Strong APIs
  • Effects
  • Animations
  • Language helpers
  • Behaviors
  • Ajax I/O
  • Cross-browser tested
  • Cross-platform support
  • Mobile and tablet ready
  • Prepared for CSS 3 and HTML 5
  • Lots of widgets
  • Charting tools
  • PhoneGap ready
  • Can be (and is) integrated with lots of web utilities, from PHP to Python and even CometD

What is new in this release:

  • Added a cross-browser approach for getting textContent in dojo/dom-prop.
  • Added dojo/on/debounce and dojo/on/throttle.
  • Added arraybuffer, blob, and document` response types where natively supported.
  • Added progress events for chunked encoding.
  • Added reusable HTML escape() function to dojo/string.
  • Added a configuration setting for a custom cache busting URL.
  • New ConfirmDialog class that extends dijit/Dialog by automatically adding OK and Cancel buttons.
  • New ConfirmTooltipDialog class that extends dijit/TooltipDialog by automatically adding OK and Cancel buttons.
  • Added support for Dialog.resize(dimensions). Previously it ignored the dimensions parameter. This means that dijit/Dialog now works with dojox/layout/ResizeHandle. Note though that you still cannot specify an initial size on the dialog.
  • Made Dialog.show() and Dialog.hide() return a Promise even if the Dialog is already opened/closed (respectively).

What is new in version 1.9.2:

  • Support for IE11
  • Support for W3C Pointer Events API in touch-enabled components (necessary for IE11 support)
  • Fixes for modern Firefox and Chrome
  • Fixes to star-mapping and aliases when using built layers
  • Fixes to sorting Date objects in dojo/store/Memory and other stores that use SimpleQueryEngine

What is new in version 1.9.0:

  • Fixed the obvious typo, thx thomasbachem, the whole affair is still not done yet, will be fixed in a point release later, !strict.

What is new in version 1.8.0:

  • More than 500 fixes
  • Re-organized and committed over 1500 changes to the reference guide
  • Brand new, extensible JavaScript-based documentation parser, which we use to generate output for the API viewer
  • Significantly enhanced the API viewer with full AMD support, module cross-linking, property source information (useful for modules that are augmented by other modules, like dojo/NodeList), and other improvements

What is new in version 1.7.3:

  • This is a bugfix release that resolves several issues with the 1.7 branch of Dojo, including issues with the i18n subsystem, legacy modules, and the build system running on Node.js.

What is new in version 1.7.2:

  • Fixes for the loader & build system.
  • Support for Firefox 10 ESR
  • Support for creating builds using Node 0.6.

What is new in version 1.7.0:

  • Ensure CSS files are not marked as copyOnly during build, thereby allowing them to be subject to CSS transforms.

What is new in version 1.6.1:

  • Many minor enhancements and fixes were made, along with official support for Internet Explorer 9 and Firefox 4.

Requirements:

  • JavaScript enabled on client side
