RLSD (formerly DSLR) stands for Retro Linux Software Distribution and it’s an open source Linux kernel-based operating system that aims to be as low on resources as possible, transforming old computers into up-to-date and performant machines.

It’s available for 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms

The RLSD operating system is available for 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms, downloadable as Live CD ISO images that are deployable on CD discs or USB thumb drives. The standard ISOs support UEFI computers, but you can download two other ISO images that don't include UEFI support. Console ISO images are also available for download.

It’s a distribution of Linux for advanced users

Retro Linux Software Distribution has been designed from the ground up to be used by advanced Linux users. The Live CD ISO image doesn't feature a boot menu and automatically start the live system from the moment the users boots the ISO image from the BIOS of a PC.

Comes pre-loaded with useful applications

Despite the fact that the ISO images are so smaller, the operating system comes pre-loaded with a wide range of open-source, libre and useful software packages that have been optimized for both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.

Among some of the pre-installed applications, we can mention that Ted rich text processor, Dillo web browser, Siag spreadsheet editor, XChat IRC client, mtPaint graphics editor, Sylpheed email client, Beaver text editor, as well as the GNU xhippo playlist manager.

The graphical desktop environment looks familiar, low on resources

Being designed from the ground up to be as low on resources as possible, the RLSD Linux distribution uses a minimal and lightweight graphical desktop environment that comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen.

The taskbar can be used to easily navigate the main menu, launch applications, cycle between virtual workspaces, as well as to interact with running programs and the functions implemented in the system tray area.
