Play Linux is an open source distribution of Linux derived from the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu, and optimized for gaming. It has been engineered to automatically configure your video cards for gaming and designed as a replacement for Microsoft Windows OSes.

It’s available for download as 32-bit and 64-bit Live DVDs

You can download Play Linux directly from its official website or via Softoware as two Live DVD ISO images of approximately 1.7GB in size each, one that contains software packages optimized for the 32-bit architecture, and another one that runs only on modern, 64-bit computers.

Uses Cinnamon as the default graphical desktop environment

Cinnamon is in charge of the default graphical session inside Play Linux. It uses Linux Mint’s MDM (Mint Display Manager) for the login screen, and features various useful Ubuntu/GNOME applications, such as Eye of GNOME, GIMP and GNOME Screenshot.

Includes powerful, state-of-the-art open source applications

As the distribution aims to be a great replacement for Microsoft Windows OSes, it includes powerful, state-of-the-art open source applications. Among these, we can mention the Mozilla Firefox web browser for surfing the Internet, VLC Media Player for watching movies, as well as Skype VoIP client for communicating with your friends and family.

In addition, you will be able to create stunning office documents with the LibreOffice office suite, listen to your favorite artists using the Spotify app for Linux, and install a bunch of amazing games that have been designed only for Microsoft Windows systems using PlayOnLinux, Winetricks and Wine.

Steam for Linux is also included by default

The best feature of Play Linux is, of course, Valve’s Steam for Linux client, which is the main portal to the amazing world of games. It allows you to login into your Steam account, download and install games, as well as to see what your Steam friends are playing at the moment.
