CTKArchLive is a Live Linux kernel-based operating system derived from the powerful Arch Linux operating system and built around the minimal Openbox window manager.

Runs on 32-bit and 64-bit computers

The distribution is available for download directly from its official website or via Softoware (see download link above) as two Live CD ISO images of approximately 600MB in size each, designed to run on computers that support both 32-bit and 64-bit instruction set architectures.

Supports English and French languages

You can choose between running the live system with support for the English and French languages when booting any of the aforementioned ISO images from the BIOS of a computer. For each language there are various boot options, such as the ability to start the live system with a specific keyboard layout or by copying the contents of the ISO image to RAM.

Another interesting feature is the ability to choose a different keyboard layout, as well as to change X.Org options, enable the persistent or console modes, performa a system memory diagnostic test, as well as to access add-ons options or boot intrerrupts.

Openbox is in charge of the graphical session

CTKArchLive uses the Openbox window manager as its default and only desktop environment. It features a hidden taskbar and has been designed to allow the user to interact with running programs using the keyboard and mouse. The main menu can be accessed by right clicking anywhere on the desktop.

The OS contains lightweight applications by default

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention the XChat IRC client, Midori web browser, GIMP image editor, Leafpad text editor, Sylpheed email client, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, gFTP file transfer client, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, Audacious audio player, Avidemux video editor, SMPlayer video player, as well as PCManFM file manager.

What is new in this release:

  • It took some time because I've implemented something quite interesting: the possibility of turning your live into a "nomad installation", by saving all system changes to the persistent data partition.
  • The script for add-on creation and the installer have required quite big changes to support this and the add-ons without conflicts.
