PCLinuxOS Br Edition LF is an open source Linux-based operating system built around the lightweight IceWM window manager. It uses the latest stable base of the PCLinuxOS distribution and has been created for the Brazilian Linux community.
The default language is Brazilian Portuguese, except for the boot prompt and the keyboard layout selector. Various other editions are available for download on Softoware, including KDE, Enlightenment, GNOME, LXDE, Razor-qt, and Openbox.
Availability and boot options
This IceWM flavor is distributed as a single Live DVD ISO-hybrid image that can be used from a USB flash drive (2GB or more) or a DVD disc. Default username/password combinations for the Live DVD are guest/guest and root/root.
Default boot options include the ability to run the live environment with default options, in safe graphics mode, copy the entire ISO to RAM (system memory - 2GB or more are recommended), use a shell prompt, install the distribution, as well as to use the safe graphics and failsafe modes.
Old-school window manager, modern applications
As mentioned, this edition uses IceWM for the graphical session, which provides users with a lightweight and traditional window manager/desktop environment comprised of a single taskbar located at the bottom edge of the screen.
The taskbar can be used to access the main menu, quickly switch between virtual workspaces, interact with running applications, as well as to access various system tray functions and programs.
Default applications include the Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, AbiWord word processor, Midnight Commander two-panel file manager, Evince document viewer, PCManFM file manager, QupZilla web browser, Synaptic Package Manager, GPicview image viewer, and BleachBit system cleaner.
Bottom line
