PCLinuxOS Br Edition Openbox is an open source distribution of Linux that uses the lightweight Openbox window manager as its default desktop environment and it’s based on the popular PCLinuxOS operating system.
The main goal of the PCLinuxOS Br project is to provide custom and localized versions of the PCLinuxOS distribution of the Brazilian Linux community. It’s distributed in multiple editions, including KDE, GNOME, Enlightenment, LXDE, Razor-qt, and IceWM (also known as LF).
Availability and boot options
The distro is available for download as a single, hybrid Live DVD ISO image that can be deployed to a USB flash drive (2GB or higher is required) or a blank DVD disc. If required, the distro uses the root password for the root (system administrator) account, and the guest password for the guest account. From the boot prompt, users can run the live environment with default settings, without boot splash, in safe graphics mode, in failsafe mode, in text mode, or in RAM (system memory). It is also possible to install the operating system without testing it, but we don’t recommend it.
Minimal window manager, popular applications
The graphical session uses a single taskbar located at the bottom edge of the screen, from where user can access the beautiful and colorful main menu, launch various applications, switch between the two virtual workspaces, as well as to interact with running programs and the system tray area.Default applications include the GNOME MPlayer video player, SimpleBurn CD/DVD burning software, XnViewMP and Eye of GNOME image viewers, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Evince document viewer, Synaptic Package Manager, Sakura terminal emulator, and Leafpad text editor.
Bottom line
We have to admit that PCLinuxOS Br Edition Openbox is the most beautiful of all the PCLinuxOS Br editions that exist. It supports both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms and can be easily deployed on low-end systems. It only consumes 105MB of RAM (system memory) on start-up.What is new in this release:
