Hanthana Linux

Hanthana Linux is an open source, free and Fedora-based Linux distribution where the main emphasis is on promoting an operating system to the masses, especially to people with low technical knowledge, no access to the Internet or under privileged. It uses GNOME Shell as its default and only desktop environment.

Available for download as a 32-bit Live DVD

While the initial design of Hanthana Linux was for it to support both 64-bit and 32-bit applications, it is available for download as a Live DVD ISO image that will run on both x86_64 and i386 hardware platforms, but will only support 32-bit apps.

Boot options

The minimal boot menu of the Live DVD will allow the user to start the live environment with default options or in debug mode. In addition, you can verify the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a DVD disc), boot from the local drive or check the RAM for errors from the Troubleshooting option.

As mentioned, the default and only desktop environment of this Fedora-based operating system is GNOME, which uses the modern GNOME Shell user interface. It is comprises of a single panel located on the upper part of the screen from where the user can quickly launch applications, interact with opened programs and cycle between virtual workspaces.

Includes a wide range of open source applications

Default applications include the Audacity audio editor, Amarok and Rhythmbox music players and organizers, Blender 3D modeller, Calibre ebook library management tool, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Evolution email and calendar client, LibreOffice office suite, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, and Cheese webcam viewer.
