Gajj Linux Xfce is a special edition of the Gajj Linux operating system that uses the lightweight Xfce desktop environment on top of the latest upstream Ubuntu release. It is a distribution of Linux oriented towards educational institutions, such as schools and universities, as it contains a wide range of open source educational applications.
Available for download as 32/64-bit Live DVDs
The Xfce edition of Gajj Linux can be downloaded via Softoware or directly from its homepage (see link above) as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported architectures, 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (i686).
Each ISO image has approximately 3.5GB in size, which means that the user must burn these ISO images to blank DVD discs using any CD/DVD burning software (Brasero, Xfburn, Nero, etc.) or write them to USB flash drives of 4GB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of a PC.
Boot options
Once the Live DVD was booted. a boot prompt will appear, allowing the user to start the live environment with default drivers or in safe graphics mode (failsafe), directly start the graphical installer to permanently install the distribution on a local drive, perform a RAM diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing operating system from the first disk.
Attractive and modern Xfce desktop environment
The default and only desktop environment of this Gajj Linux edition is powered by Xfce, which features a top panel, from where the user can easily launch applications or interact with running programs, and a bottom dock (application launcher) that is hidden by default.
Includes a wide range of open-source educational applications
Being tailored to be deployed on the desktop computers of educational institutions around the world, Gajj Linux includes a wide range of open-source educational applications, among which we can mention BRL-CAD, Brackets, Code::Blocks, KompoZer, GNU PSPP, GRASS GIS, QGIS, Qucs, Agave, Inkscape, Scilab, Xcos, Scinotes and Android Developer Tools.
