Conmigo is an open source, freely distributed, minimal, bootable and live Linux kernel-based operating system derived from the xPUD distribution and designed to be used only on computers with old or semi-old hardware components (also known as low-end machines).

A fork of the xPUD distro

Conmigo is actually a fork of the xPUD distro, which is a Live Linux pendrive-based operating system. It features improved compatibility with ancient computer hardware components, and designed to be used in community centers.

Distributed as a dual-arch Live CD

The operating system is currently under heavy development, distributed as a bootable Live CD ISO image designed to support both low-end computers powered by a 32-bit CPU, as well as modern 64-bit machines. The system is designed to be used directly from the bootable medium, which can be either a CD (Compact Disc) or a USB flash drive.

Boot options

From the Live CD boot menu, the uses will be able to choose his/her favorite language before starting the live system. Supported languages include English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Finnish, Galician, Polish, Swedish, Vietnamese, Russian, and Portuguese.

Please note that Spanish is the default language, which will be activated by default in 10 seconds from the moment you boot the ISO image from the BIOS of your computer, if you don’t choose another language.

Intuitive user interface

Conmigo’s user interface is identical with the one of the xPUD operating system. Even the xPUD name was kept. The interface has four sections, Home, Menu, File, and Settings. From the Home section, which is the default one, users will be able to set up their wireless connection and power off the machine.

From the Menu section, you can use various applications, such as the Mozilla Firefox web browser, XTerm terminal emulator, GNOME MPlayer media player, as well as various web apps like Facebook, YouTube, Meebo, and Google Calendar.

The File section will present a file manager (PCManFM) that helps you to manage files on your file system. Lastly, from the Settings section you will be able to configure various options and tweak the system to your needs.
