Chitwanix OS

Chitwanix OS is an open source and free distribution of Linux which is based on Ubuntu, which in turn is based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux distro. It uses Sagarmatha as its default desktop environment.

The Live DVD works on 32-bit and 64-bit platforms

The Chitwanix OS distribution can be downloaded via Softoware or from its official website (see link above) as a Live DVD ISO image of approximately 3.5GB in size, suitable for both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86_64) computers.

Boot options

While the Live DVD will boot automatically in ten seconds from the moment the user boot the ISO image from the BIOS of a PC using either a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive, it is possible to reveal the boot menu by pressing any keyboard key during that timeout.

Default boot options include the ability to start the live environment with standard drivers or in compatibility mode, check the integrity of the disc (only if booting from a DVD media), run a memory test, or use the Utility Kit option, which includes numerous cool tools.

Beautiful, modern and traditional desktop environment powered by Sagarmatha

As mentioned, the default and only graphical desktop environment of Chitwanix OS is Sagarmatha, which uses a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, allowing users to effortlessly launch applications and interact with them.

Includes a wide range of open source applications

As expected for a 3.5GB distribution, it includes a wide range of open source applications, among which we can mention the GIMP image editor, VLC Media Player, Skype VoIP client, Steam for Linux, FileZilla file transfer client, LibreOffice office suite, Audacity audio editor, Chromium web browser and Inkscape vector graphics editor.

Bottom line

Summing up, Chitwanix OS is designed for new and experienced users alike, but its geared towards the Nepali Linux community. It includes lots of free software, which can be used as alternatives to popular apps found in Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X operating systems.
