Axis2 is the successor to the widely used Apache Axis SOAP implementation.
While the original Axis project worked with SOAP 1.0, Axis2 implements the newer SOAP 1.1 and 1.2 stacks.
Besides support for the newer version of the protocol, core changes have also been made to the Apache Axis2 library itself, benefiting from a more organized, modular codebase as well.
The library yields better speeds, lower memory usage, is more stable and easier to extend via add-ons.
There's also support for MEP (Message Exchange Patterns), AXIOM message processing, and the WSDL language.
