There are a few plugins and libraries around that can already to this, but Tablesaw provides not only support for properly displaying tables on mobile devices, but also adds features and controls that improve the way tables are navigated and interacted with.
Yes it can make a large table convert into a vertical nested (stacked) list, but it also supports sorting table columns ascending or descending, turning table columns on or off, adding pagination elements in case the table columns go off-screen, and many other more.
All of these provide users with a pretty set of useful features for not only making responsive tables, but also converting them into fully blown datagrid components.
