TurnKey ownCloud Live CD is an open source software appliance, an operating system based on the well known Debian GNU/Linux distribution and built around the ownCloud software. It will help you to easily and quickly deploy dedicated servers with ownCloud.
ownCloud is an open source DIY cloud platform that provides topnotch storage facilities for your folders, files, contacts, photos, calendars and more. The appliance comes with all of the upstream ownCloud configurations, which are installed by default in /var/www/owncloud.
Key features include the phpMyAdmin administrative front-end for MySQL databases, support for secure connections using the latest SSL specification, Webmin modules for configuring Postfix, PHP, MySQL and Apache, as well as a Postfix MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) for sending emails to users.
It is important to mention that the phpMyAdmin software has been configured to listen on port 12322 over a secure SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connection. Furthermore, the default username for the MySQL, Webmin, SSH and Postfix components is root, and the default ownCloud username is admin.
The appliance is available for download as Live CD ISO images, which can be used to install the operating system on a local disk drive using CD discs, or USB flash drives for greater portability. In addition to the Live CDs, the appliance is distributed as virtual images for Xen, OpenStack, OVF, OpenVZ and OpenNode virtualization technologies.
The installation process takes only a few minutes and requires users to partition the disk drive (mostly an automatic proces) and choose where or if you want to install the bootloader. After the installation, it is a must to enter the root password, as well as to set up new passwords for the MySQL 'root' account and ownCloud 'admin' account.
At the end of the first boot configuration process, the appliance will automatically display the IP addresses and ports of the active services, so make sure you write them down on a piece of paper.
