Parrot security OS Home Edition

Parrot security OS Home Edition is a variant of the open source Parrot security OS distribution of Linux, based on the award-winning and widely used Debian GNU/Linux operating system, especially designed to be used by home users to stay anonymous and safe when browsing or chatting online.

Distributed as 64-bit and 32-bit Live DVDs

The Home edition of Parrot security OS is currently distributed as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware architectures, 32-bit or 64-bit. The ISOs have approximately 1.4 GB in size each, which means that you must write them to either DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 2GB or higher capacity.

Fancy boot menu

From the Live DVD boot menu, the user will be able to start the live system with default settings, with persistence, in command-line mode, in forensic mode or in failsafe mode. Additionally, you will be able to perform a fresh installation of Parrot security OS Home Edition.

Also, please note that the default username for the live mode is root and the password is toor. You will need these credentials to log into the live session, as the Live DVD will drop you to a login prompt by default.

Highly customized version of MATE

MATE is the default desktop environment for Parrot security OS and has been highly customized with a darkish theme and some futuristic icons. It uses a two-panel layout, as well as a system monitoring widget on the desktop.

Comes pre-loaded with a plethora of open source apps

The distribution includes various open-source applications, among which we can mention the GIMP image editor, LibreOffice office suite, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Empathy instant messenger, Iceweasel web browser, Remmina remote desktop client, TorChat anonymous chat client, Transmission torrent downloader, XChat IRC client, AbiWord word processor, Gnumeric spreadsheet editor, OpenShot video editor, Rhythmbox music player, Totem video player, Brasero CD/DVD burning software, and BleachBit system cleaner.
