OSLtriX Lite is an open source, free, eye-candy, elegant, attractive, stable and reliable GNU/Linux operating system based off of Xubuntu, an official Ubuntu flavor that uses Xfce as its default graphical desktop environment.
Differences between OSLtriX Lite and OSLtriX Main
As you might know, the OSLtriX Linux operating system is distributed in two editions, Main and Lite. The main and only difference between the OSLtriX Lite and OSLtriX Main distributions is that the former comes with fewer software packages than the latter.
It’s still distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD
To be honest, we expected to see a CD-size ISO image for this project. Unfortunately, it is still distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD ISO image that has approximately 1 GB in size and must be written to either a DVD disc or a USB thumb drive of 2GB or higher capacity.
The Live DVD boot menu is identical with Xubuntu’s
Once again, the Live DVD boot menu of OSLtriX Lite is identical with Xubuntu’s, allowing users to try the operating system without installing anything on their computers, start the installation directly, perform a system memory check, boot from the local drive, as well as to verify the integrity of the bootable medium (only if using a CD disc).
Xfce still looks astonishing
Except for the fact that it uses a different desktop background, the Xfce desktop environment looks the same as on the Main edition of the OSLtriX distribution. It uses the same two-panel layout with the same applets (main menu, application launcher, task manager, desktop switcher, system tray area), as well as a system monitoring widget on the desktop.
Why choose OSLtriX Lite over OSLtriX Main
You should choose the OSLtriX Lite distro only if you want to install a desktop-oriented system that is not bloated with unnecessary features, such as applications that you don’t really use. Otherwise, both OSLtriX flavors run fast on both old and modern PCs.
