LinuxMyst is an open source distribution of Linux based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system and designed from the ground up to promote the exotic Myst window manager.
Distributed as amd64/i386 Live CDs
This Debian-based distribution can be downloaded via Softoware or from its official homepage (see link above) as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms (64-bit/amd64 and 32-bit/i386). The ISO images have been tagged with the “USB” term, which means that are deployable to USB flash drivers.
Boot options
The informative boot menu will allow the user to start the live environment with default options or in failsafe mode (safe graphics mode), directly start the text-mode or graphical installer, as well as to access more advanced options, such as the ability to view detailed hardware information.
Includes 7 desktop environments/window managers
Unfortunately, the Live CDs have been designed to drop users to a shell prompt where they must use the ‘user’ username and ‘live’ password to access the graphical session, most probably because it states that it includes the Xfce, Openbox, IceWM, WindowMaker, BlackBox and awesome window managers/desktop environments. However, none of them are functional!
Default applications
Default applications include the Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox web browsers, GNOME Commander twin-panel file manager, Feh image viewer, and many others.
Bottom line
We have to admit that LinuxMyst is an interesting operating system that combines the latest stable release of the Debian GNU/Linux distribution with the exotic Myst window manager.
