LinuxBBQ is an open source project designed as a collection of multi-purpose Linux-based operating systems, powered and inspired by the award winning Debian GNU/Linux distribution. The LinuxBBQ Xfce edition uses the lightweight Xfce as its default desktop environment.

Distributed as a 64-bit Live CD

The Xfce edition of LinuxBBQ can be downloaded via Softoware or from its official website as a hybrid Live CD ISO image of approximately 350MB in size, designed to support only 64-bit (amd64) hardware platforms. It must be deployed onto a CD disc or a USB flash drive of 512MB or higher capacity in order to boot it from the BIOS of a PC.

Boot options

Default boot options include the ability to start the live environment with default boot options, with support for Intel video cards, in safe graphics mode, with the ‘nomode’ option, by copying the contents of the ISO image to RAM, in failsafe mode, as well as to perform a system memory test.

Lightweight, simple and easy to use desktop environment powered by Xfce

As mentioned, the default and only desktop environment of this LinuxBBQ edition is Xfce, which comprises of a dock (application launcher) located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can launch their favorite apps and interact with them.

Includes a standard set of open source applications

Being a small distribution, it includes a standard set of open source applications, mostly of them being Xfce-specific ones. Among some third-party ones, we can mention the Iceweasel Firefox web browser, as well as the Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger.

Bottom line

Summing up, the Xfce edition of LinuxBBQ is here to provide users with a lightweight, easy-to-use and quite attractive desktop-oriented operating system that uses the fast Xfce desktop environment on top of a stable Debian base. It is suitable for low-end machines.
