DBLab Zorin Remix is a free and open source operating system based on the popular Zorin OS Linux distribution and tailored for users who want a Windows-like OS with a ton of open source applications.
4GB Live DVDs for 32-bit and 64-bit platforms
The distribution can be downloaded from Softoware or from its official website as Live DVD ISO images of 4GB in size each, designed to be compatible with 64-bit (amd64) and 32-bit (i386) instruction set architectures and compatible with DVD discs or USB flash drives of 4GB or higher capacity.
Boot options
The boot options are pretty standard, allowing the user to start the live environment with default options or in safe graphics mode, permanently install the distribution on a local drive, boot an existing operating system from the first disk, as well as to perform a system memory diagnostic test using the Memtest utility.
Futuristic desktop environment à la Zorin OS
As expected, this DBLab edition uses Zorin OS’ futuristic desktop environment, which is actually a highly customized version of an old GNOME graphical interface. It comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where the user can easily launch applications or interact with opened programs and the system tray functions.
Twice as much applications than the official Zorin OS distribution
The only difference between the official Zorin OS distribution and this custom Live DVD is that the latter comes with a least twice as much applications than the first one, among which we can mention the Calibre ebook library management software, Geary email client, FileZilla file transfer client, Pidgin and Empathy multi-protocol instant messengers, and Chromium web browser.
Bottom line
Summing up, DBLab Zorin Remix is here for all people who want to use the powerful and modern Zorin OS operating system on their home computers but want to have more open source applications. Also, you shoud check out DBLab's custom edition based on the Zorin OS Lite distribution.
