Bluewhite64 Linux is an open source and free distribution of Linux derived from the powerful Slackware Linux operating system and designed from the ground up to be used only on computers supporting the 64-bit (amd64/x86_64) instruction set architecture.

Download it as a single DVD file or multiple CD ISO images

This Slackware derivative can be downloaded from Softoware as installable-only DVD- and CD-size ISO images. If you have access to a DVD disc, we strongly suggest you to download the 4GB DVD ISO image, otherwise you will have to grab three CDs.

Standard boot menu à la Slackware Linux

When booting either of the DVD or CD ISO images from the BIOS of a computer, you will encounter a boot menu, which is identical with the one of the Slackware Linux distribution. It allows the user to start the installation, as well as to pass extra parameters to the kernel.

Text-mode installer is similar with Slackware’s

At the boot prompt, just press the Enter key on your keyboard to start the installation process. You will be asked to choose a keyboard layout or hit Enter again to continue with the installation. Login as root, partition the disk with cfdisk and execute the “setup” command (without quotes) to start the text-mode installer.

It’s quite easy to install Bluewhite64

To install the Bluewhite64 operating system on your computer, you are required to remap your keyboard if you’re not using a US one, set up the swap partition, setup the target partition, select the source media, select categories of software to install and deploy selected packages, as well as to configure the entire system by installing a bootloader, setup users and passwords, configuring the network and system clock.

The default desktop environment is KDE

Bluewhite64’s default and only desktop environment is KDE, which provides users with a familiar and traditional graphical interface comprised of numerous open-source applications, especially KDE-specific ones. The Mozilla Firefox web browser, gFTP file transfer client, XChat IRC client, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, GIMP image editor and SeaMonkey all-in-one Internet suite are also installed.

It is no longer under active development

Keep in mind that the distro will drop you to a shell prompt, where you must login with the root username and the password created during the installation, then execute the "startx" command (without quotes) to launch the KDE environment. The distribution is no longer under active development and will not receive any software updates or security patches. It has been archived for historical references purposes only.
